Can anyone give me any informtation on this family. My Great Aunt Agnes worked for them as a cook, and cooked for Franklin Roosevelt and Attorney General William Mitchell. There was an aritlce about Auntie Agnes in 1978 in the Butte paper.

My mother was a childhood friend of Margaret Hanson who I believe was the Hanson's only daughter. Margaret had an amazing playhouse in the garden, which I saw in 1972. It was complete with a miniature kitchen with leaded-glass cupboards and a beautiful stone fireplace...and of course its own swimming pool. Margaret's chauffeur would pick up my mother and deliver the girls to McKinley school. She remembered when FDR came to visit. Your great aunt Agnes would probably have remembered my mother, Elsie Jane Gamer.
We have always wondered what became of Margaret.

My mother, who died in 1988, told us she worked at Hanson Packing in Butte as a young woman - probably in her 20's. Her name then was Floreta Fitzhugh Varney. She also had fond memories of the Columbia Gardens there. (I'm not sure of the name but that rings a bell.) Does anyone remember her?

Joyce I do not think many people are around that will remember your mother or my family. Possibly a lady who works for Butte Books. Her husband went to school with my uncle Jim Vollmer. Grandpa Joe Vollmer worked at the Hanson Packing plant, as well as several of my Grandma Esters brothers worked there. After my grandmother died I think around 1942, my Grandpa Joe moved to Bozeman and started his own slaughterhouse, Vollmer and Sons. I hope this helps. And of course Auntie Agnes was the cook and housekeeper for the Hansons. Most of my family is gone now, so I hope this helps. I also remember going to Columbia Gardens as a little girl.

Although, I am not living in Montana, I do live in Montclair, CA. I grew up in Bozeman, and my dad's family, the Vollmer's, Joe (grandpa) Hank, John (Johann) Elenoar, Jim, Budd (my dad) and Dorothy all were born in Bozeman. Uncle Hank the 1st born was born in 1918or 1917. My dad was born in 1925.
